BRIEF: Aviation Authority Picks Engineering Firm For TIA Terminal

May 8--TAMPA -- The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority has selected Reynolds, Smith & Hills Inc. as the civil engineer for Tampa International Airport's proposed North Terminal complex.

The terminal, which would add space for airlines and passengers, is projected to open in 2015.

Reynolds, which is based in Jacksonville but has offices in Tampa, will negotiate with airport officials over the cost of the design work. The contract then will need to be presented to the aviation authority for approval.

Three firms were finalists in the selection process.

The North Terminal is projected to cost about $1 billion.

Tampa International could receive up to $15.2 million in state aviation development grants after July 1 if Gov. Charlie Crist signs off on the fiscal 2009 budget the Legislature has approved without using a line-item veto on the airport money.

The airport money would be used for projects including the North Terminal design and extension of Cargo Road.
